Every day is a bad hair day
This was a rest day after yesterday’s long ride with donner und blitzen. Regensburg is charming UNESCO world heritage city with a large area that is traffic-free (except that some cars and buses still drive there – don’t quite get that).

One thing I liked about the old city is the lack of street furniture and general clutter. Street lights are fixed directly to the buildings in the narrow streets. It was the same in the old Jewish Quarter in Budapest. For me it evokes a Third Man / Harry-Lime type atmosphere.

It has a famous cathedral with two towers (you can’t really see the second one in the picture). I believe it was originally a Catholic church but was taken over by the Protestants. It has got quite an austere asthetic – which I like – but with some residual adornments such as very ornate “roofs” over the pulpits and striking stained glass windows. It is an intriguing mix.
I was puzzled by the main alter. It is made up of 5 elements (one central one and two on each side) and adorned with 14 large candles. It must look fantastic when the candles are lit. However, I would have expected the alter to be composed of 3 elements in the Christian tradition and probably to have 12 candles for the apostles. I don’t know the background

As a veggie, an unexpected plus point of a holiday in Bavaria is that excellent salads are easily available. My standard cycling meal is a large salad with chips and, if possible, fresh juice.

Yes, now, as the holiday has progress, my hair has got longer and the grooming opportunities have become more limited. It’s true. Every day is a bad hair day. And Chris can’t disown me because she is stuck on the back of the tandem.

Solution

Now every day is a good hair day again …
