Disaster strikes …

Then a campsite that had a not-quite-right vibe. Struggling to find a flat pitch. The hot water running out in the showers (first time this trip). Then the ground being hard and lumpy when we lay down to sleep. We ended up sleeping in a funny position pushed up against one end of the tent. In the broader history of Danube travelers, armies et al, this is hopefully an entirely minor disaster; GL rapidly downloading the tent-pole fixing app, or at worst locating Bavarian superglue and tape …

I’m curious to hear of what, if anything, is in or on the river, boats … ? Presumably as you progress then more river craft will appear.

Actually, we were planning to lay siege to the gates of Vienna using that tent pole …

Good point about boats on the Danube – there are none at the moment. There was some rafting and camping in the Black Forest and Schwabian Alps. And some very active local canoe clubs – including playing done type of water polo in canoes. But otherwise … nothing. Except one small yacht club (for children, I think) in a big lake above a hydro dam
