“I really like the speed between walking and driving. You can still see things but you make good progress.”

Last night we went for a walk along the Danube path. This is the view of the water above a hydro-electric dam as the sun was setting. Apparently the dam accounts for a reduction of 31.5 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Our shiny new bike got a bit muddy and slightly scratched yesterday:

But this morning had a clean-up and oil before we got going.

Today is a fairly long stage from Dillingen to Neuburg – over 60 km. We followed the Danube on slippery gravel paths for a while. But the it was a nice change to join the FASTER tarmac roads across the fertile, warm, damp Danube valley:

All along the Danube since Ulm there have been distance markers to the sea. We were hoping for a picture next to 2,500 but we weren’t cycling on the Danube at that point.

There is mile after mile of the river flowing fast with nothing on either bank. And no boats – neither pleasure nor commercial. It makes me wonder about the huge catfish lurking deep below in the mud …

After a long day, hot day we finally made it to Neuburg and enjoyed a super-market picnic on the river bank:
