What do you think about when we are cycling?
Anything.
Can you be a bit more specific?
I think about things in response to what I see. My mind just drifts. It can be practical things or memories.
Is it relaxing?
Yes. But mostly I’m not thinking. Just seeing and integrating the impressions. Also, we are always looking for the next Danube path sign.
One of your hopes for the trip was to be the cause of 100 happy smiles. How is the tally going?
We are well in our way. There have been at least 25 happy smiles but many more interested responses and comments.
What are your tips for a good night’s sleep in a tent?
Cycle, cycle, cycle
It isn’t really comfortable and there are outside distractions like noisy trains. But at least it is warm. Being tired helps the most.
One of our readers noted that you look very chic and composed. ARE YOU ACTUALLY PEDALING?
That shall forever remain a secret. However, there remains the strange observation that your legs are more tired at the top of a hill …
Relieved that tent is storm-proof, and – given there is no mention of punctures or bits falling off, that the bike is behaving itself.
Reading of your trundling tranquility is a soothing antidote to this morning’s headlines (ERG/Tory/HMG punch n’judy leadership spat; a bbc journalist asking Bojo’s aide whether Farage will be in his cabinet …). Still overcast with showers here, 17oc.
