Thursday 13 June

“It’s difficult to imagine that the rest of the trip can be any better than this”. That’s what Chris said part way through the day.

We cycled from Tuttlingen to Sigmaringen, about 60 km, following the Danube first across a broad valley and the through steep cliffs covered in forest. Almost entirely traffic free.

We both liked Tuttlingen. It is where the EuroVelo 6 route from the Atlantic to the Black Sea joins the German Danube path. It’s a nice town with a free municipal campsite with good facilities.

Breakfast at a cafe-cum-bakery

At first the path was pleasant and rural. Then we entered a beautiful protected nature area.

First attempt at me riding slowly and Chris filming from the back:

Finally we got close to our destination. There has been quite a lot of up and down – we cycled up some steep hills but still needed to get off and push 3 times. And it was a hot day. Chris is looking tired and drinking apple juice. You can see Tekel in the background.

The Danube started the day as a small river running through peaceful rural villages. It was a pleasant backdrop to life but not much more. By the end of the day, however, it was an important commercial resource for canoeing and rafting with children’s playgrounds and other special installations along the banks. Let’s see what happens next …

Way to go Chris and Graham. You seem to have overcome the obstacles and are now reaping the rewards. it looks great, hope you keep getting good weather. I’m in North Wales and have been walking for 3 days in terrible weather, rain and cold. Great day last Sunday I’m glad you were there to enjoy it with the rest of the tournament team as usual before your adventure started.
Look forward to hearing more about your trip. Congrats on the Masters Graham.
